A wireless access point (WAP), also known as an access point (AP), is a networking device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network. It's like a direct connection between two locations, offering a secure and reliable way to transfer information. This differs from other network types that may share bandwidth or involve multiple nodes. 

A network switch is a device that connects multiple wired devices together within a network, allowing them to communicate with each other by forwarding data packets. It's a crucial component in both small and large networks, facilitating efficient data transfer and managing network traffic. Switches operate at the data link layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model, using MAC addresses to direct data packets. 

A hardline internet connection, also known as a wired or Ethernet connection, refers to using a physical cable (typically an Ethernet cable) to connect a device directly to a modem or router, which provides access to the internet. This contrasts with a wireless (Wi-Fi) connection, which relies on radio waves to transmit data.
